Copper is a key metal

Recyclability, durability, and conductivity are what make this reddish metal so special. That’s why it’s hard to replace with other materials. Copper is essential for the energy transition and electrification. Renewable energies, power grids, battery storage, and electric vehicles all depend on this raw material. When copper is mined today, more rock has to be processed to get the same amount of copper as in the past. Copper mining consumes large amounts of energy. Processing is only possible at high temperatures and requires a great deal of water. Copper is almost 100 percent recyclable, but complex separation processes are often necessary.
There are geopolitical dependencies and a certain scarcity of resources, while copper consumption is rising. According to a study commissioned by the International Copper Study Group, more than 250,000 tons of copper will be used in electric vehicles each year by 2030. And by 2040, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are estimated to account for around 72 percent of the market. The British government, for example, is investing almost three billion euros in the development and manufacture of electric vehicles and in the charging infrastructure. Funds are earmarked to enable charging solutions for households without their own driveway. To this end, cables are to be laid in rails in the pavement. Compared to a combustion engine, this should bring savings of up to around 1,700 euros per year – and a greener future.
Mogotes Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/mogotes-metals-inc/ – has copper projects in Chile and Argentina that contain copper and gold. The Filo Sur copper project (Argentina) appears particularly promising.
Meridian Mining – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/meridian-mining-uk-societas/ – has achieved excellent drilling results at its Cabaçal VMS project (copper, gold, silver) in Brazil, in a region with a well-developed and productive mining sector.
