Answers are provided by Dr Dina Barbian, Managing Director of the eco2050 Institute for Sustainability and long-standing lecturer in the Continuing Education programs at TUM Campus Heilbronn. Anyone who would like to get to know the expert, gain additional input and ask her questions will have the opportunity to do so at a virtual ‘Meet the Expert’ session on 21 October at 2 p.m.
Since completing her doctorate in the mid-90s, Barbian has been passionate about environmental protection and the social component of the environmental economy. This idea ultimately led to the founding of the Institute for Sustainability. The goal was and is to make digital solutions and technologies sustainable – this is precisely what participants learn in the tailor-made courses. In this context, the doctor of sustainability economics speaks of “Twin Transformation.”

In Barbian, the participants have a pioneering lecturer who is setting new standards: “Sustainable AI was still a foreign concept at the time, and our publications in this area were among the first of their kind.” One example of this is the study: The Ambivalence of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability. The groundwork laid by the Institute at that time is now paying off in a current project: the development of sustainable servers.
Dina Barbian can now look back on more than 30 years of professional experience. She is the spokesperson for the ‘Digitalization & Sustainability’ network at VDE Bavaria (Institute of Electrical Engineering) and the author of books and specialist articles on a wide range of interdisciplinary topics.
