The Indians and gold
Breaking News:

Indians love gold. Jewelry sales and investment demand are in the spotlight. Gold ETFs saw record inflows in September, and this trend appears to be continuing. Despite the high price of gold, it remains in steady demand as an investment opportunity and for wedding jewelry. Import duties are a significant factor in the price of gold. Import duties on gold in India are six percent (previously 15 percent). Capital gains taxes on gold holdings, gold ETFs, and investment funds have also been reduced. Whether for celebrations, weddings, or savings, India has a special relationship with the precious metal, both emotionally and economically.
In June 2025, gold imports to India fell sharply. Silver enjoyed growing popularity. However, in the second half of the year, with festivals and weddings just around the corner, demand usually rises significantly again. According to Indian jewelers, sales are growing significantly in the current quarter. Gold imports to India reached a ten-month high in August. And in September, India’s gold imports continued to rise, almost doubling compared to the previous month (from US$5.14 billion to US$9.6 billion). They even reached their second-highest level since records began – despite record high prices. Gold ETFs recorded record inflows in September. And the Indian central bank’s gold reserves exceed US$100 billion for the first time. Although the central bank has purchased less gold this year, high gold prices have led to this milestone. In addition to physical gold, investors can also invest in gold royalty companies, which shine with their own diversification.
