What began in 2008 with a simple question — “There must be a better way” — has evolved into an internationally recognized intralogistics solution. Today, the ZELL Group is one of the leading manufacturers of modular workpiece carrier systems for transport, cleaning, and automated production processes. The company’s roots lie in Zell Oberflächentechnik GmbH & Co. KG, a long-established A-supplier to the automotive industry. Driven by its own production requirements, company founder Ingo Zell developed an innovative workpiece carrier system that laid the foundation for ZELL’s successful transformation from a surface treatment provider into a specialist for transport and intralogistics solutions.
Through Zell Systemtechnik GmbH, the ZELL Group now sets benchmarks in conveyor technology and intralogistics for high-value components. Its modular system comprises more than 1,300 standardized components, designed around European standard dimensions as well as Schäfer 1 and 2. These modules are combined into individually configured workpiece carrier systems, precisely tailored to component geometry, weight, and process requirements. Different sizes, colors, and labeling options enable further customization — all based on a consistent system principle: one clip fits every carrier, and every carrier fits the corresponding basket. Proven industry solutions are already in use across the automotive, medical, and electronics sectors.
At the center of attention is the ZELL® Carrier — a modular 3-in-1 workpiece carrier based on the ZELL® Factory System. It enables transport, washing, and automation without the need for a separate washing basket. The carrier is roller-conveyor compatible in both directions, stackable with standardized containers and KLTs, and optimized for heavy components. With the ZELL® BOX, cavities can be flexibly configured, making the system ideal for applications with high component variance. The consistent matrix design also supports automated handling and production processes. International patents and ISO 9001 certification underscore ZELL’s commitment to quality and innovation.
ZELL continues to advance its workpiece holding technology as well. In addition to standard clips, multiclips are increasingly used to reduce assembly effort and increase capacity per carrier. Workpiece carriers and baskets are also available as kits made from high-quality polyamide, reducing both weight and cost. To meet growing international demand, the ZELL Group is expanding its production capacities and strengthening its presence across Europe, the United States, and Asia.
New: ZELL Shop
With the launch of the ZELL Shop, ZELL introduces an interactive web shop for fast and easy ordering of plastic workpiece carrier systems. All five plastic carriers can already be configured in terms of footprint and height, while selected components, standard clips, and multiclips can be ordered online as kits. Stocked products are available at short notice — ideal for samples, testing, variants, and reorders of existing systems.
At LogiMAT, the ZELL Group demonstrates how modular workpiece carrier systems become a key enabler for efficient, automated, and future-proof intralogistics.
