For more than a century, Original LÖWE has focused on durable and repairable tools. Founded in Kiel, the company combines craft tradition with responsibility: serviceable garden pruners, industrial cutters, and hunting shears, manufactured using renewable electricity and increasingly plastic-free packaging. To this day, Original LÖWE manufactures as Gebr. Schröder GmbH in Flintbek near Kiel – Made in Germany and with suppliers deliberately selected in Germany.
At Original LÖWE, sustainability is not a trend, but lived practice. Since 1923, the company has developed and manufactured tools that can be used and serviced over many years. Wear parts can be replaced selectively, and spare parts remain available long-term – a clear contribution against a throwaway mentality. For many models, matching spare-parts sets as well as individually assigned components such as blades, springs, and screws are available. This makes repairs plannable and prevents a defect from becoming a total loss.

In manufacturing, Original LÖWE relies entirely on renewable electricity, and its own PV system provides a valuable additional contribution. Resource conservation is also a focus in packaging: where possible, it is implemented in a plastic-reduced way without compromising the protective function. This creates a sustainable approach that combines longevity, everyday practicality, and responsible business practices. According to company information, Original LÖWE sources its electricity certified with the “Grüner Strom” green electricity label, and an on-site photovoltaic system additionally supports supply at the location.
Around the company site, an orchard meadow strengthens biodiversity with 300 fruit trees, 99 grapevines, and its own honeybees – sustainability does not end at the production line here. As a concrete example of the switch to sustainable packaging, Original LÖWE consistently uses plastic-free solutions for the “natural” sub-brand – including paper cable ties.
For users, this means: familiar handling, planned use, and long-term spare-parts availability. For retailers and service partners, repair-friendliness brings clear advantages instead of complete replacement purchases. In the independent practical test by the NDR consumer magazine “MARKT,” the Original LÖWE 11 impressed as the test winner. In the pruning-shear test by GartenFlora (November 2023), it also took first place among seven hand and rose shears with the rating “EXCELLENT 1.3.” These awards exemplify the high quality and performance of the Original LÖWE 11.
Long-term customer satisfaction is also reflected in online reviews: on Amazon.de, several models receive very high ratings. The Original LÖWE 1.104 achieves an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars with 1,240 reviews, and the Original LÖWE 8.107 reaches 4.8 out of 5 stars with 718 ratings (as of Dec. 22, 2025).
“What stays in use for a long time conserves resources – that’s why we focus on serviceable designs and available spare parts,” says Jürgen Usinger, Product Manager at Original LÖWE. “This allows proven tools to keep being used and not infrequently even passed on, instead of being replaced entirely.”
Original LÖWE is socially engaged through the non-profit association Starke LÖWEN e.V., which originated from the family business. The association promotes the mental health of children and adolescents. Original LÖWE covers the administrative costs so that donations flow fully into the projects.
Since 2011, Original LÖWE has supported the Ronald McDonald House in Kiel. On the occasion of World Lion Day, which also marked the 100th anniversary of Gebr. Schröder GmbH, Original LÖWE, the company collected a donation of EUR 11,235 for this institution.
