E-mobility on land and in water
Dienstag, Feb. 10, 2026
Electric mobility is advancing. Emerging markets such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Turkey are particularly responsible for this. It is clear that this will change the demand for raw materials, as electric vehicles require significantly more copper than conventional vehicles, for example. But progress is also being made on the water. A new electric excursion boat has entered service in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan. At almost 40 meters long, just under 11 meters wide, and with room for around 200 passengers, it is the largest electric sightseeing boat currently in operation.
In addition to every comfort, the "Yibin Cultural Tourism" has a 2,572-kWh lithium-ion battery, which is sufficient for a six-hour trip. The largest fully electric ship, the "China Zorrilla," was launched last year. It is the largest electric vehicle ever built and can carry 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles. This is made possible by 250 tons of batteries, and it sails between Argentina and Uruguay. Environmentally friendly shipping has thus become possible on a large scale.
This development is made possible by the use of certain raw materials such as copper, but also by battery raw materials. Copper plays a crucial role as an indispensable conductor in batteries, charging stations, cable systems, and electric motors. In addition, the growing market for artificial intelligence will fuel copper consumption.
Aurania Resources – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/aurania-resources-ltd/ – focuses on precious metals and critical energy raw materials in Europe. In Italy (nickel, cobalt, iron, copper, and chromium) and in France. There, the company has also added three new exploration licenses (gold, polymetallic metals) through a subsidiary.
Meridian Mining PLC – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/meridian-mining-uk-societas/ – (formerly Meridian Mining UK Societas) owns the promising Cabaçal project (copper, gold, silver) in Brazil, in a region with a well-developed and productive mining sector. The resources for the Cabaçal deposits have just been expanded, which is very encouraging.
