Modula expands its warehouse automation offering with Flexibox

Within Modula’s automation offering, Flexibox is the automated vertical warehouse for bins designed for intensive picking, order management and kitting. The system processes up to 180 bins per hour and can manage hundreds of order lines simultaneously. According to the machine model, the bay can make available from 3 to 9 bins at the same time.

Modula, the Italian company specialised in intralogistics solutions, has presented Flexibox as a system developed for warehouses and production environments where speed, accuracy and continuity now carry greater weight in daily operations. The machine brings to the operator only the required products inside the bins, according to the order launched from the management system, and makes them accessible in a structured and efficient way.

With this solution, Modula expands its warehouse automation portfolio across different storage and picking needs. Alongside Flexibox, the Modula portfolio includes automated storage systems that support different warehouse layouts and process requirements: Modula Lift and Modula Slim for vertical automated storage, Modula Next for selective access and operational control, Modula Pallet for automated pallet storage and handling, and Modula HC as a horizontal carousel system for sites with limited ceiling height.

Across these solutions, the objective remains consistent: a smaller footprint, faster access to items, shorter internal routes and a more linear workflow that improves picking efficiency, picking accuracy and operator ergonomics, while supporting more stable day-to-day operations. In the case of Flexibox, this translates into a system built for batch picking, multi-order picking and kitting, with a configuration that supports faster order preparation and easier operator access to products.

Operational performance also benefits from a structure designed to reduce waiting times and support simultaneous order preparation. Modula states that the central elevator and telescopic fork can bring up to 9 bins to the bay at a time, for a total throughput of up to 180 bins per hour. This setup supports intensive picking environments where multiple order lines require fast and accurate processing.

Flexibox also combines storage density and scalability. Modula states that the system can reach up to 21 metres in height, manage hundreds of bins in a limited footprint and work with robots, cobots, AMRs and advanced picking solutions. It can also operate alongside Modula Lift VLMs inside a broader intralogistics setup.

The digital core is Modula WMS, the software that governs the process and supports the intelligent combination of bins according to order requirements. Through this integration, Flexibox fits into a wider logic of inventory control, picking guidance and operational visibility, with a structure that supports more orderly flows and greater consistency in execution.
