Opel now know when and where their Formula E adventure will begin. The German manufacturer will make its debut as a works team in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 18 and 19, 2026. Today’s release of the racing calendar by the FIA marks the start of the critical phase for Opel on the way to the international electric world championship. In the German manufacturer’s first season, the Opel GSE Formula E Team will compete in 21 races spread across 13 cities on four continents.

“With the publication of the calendar, we now have a very concrete destination for our anticipation. For months, the entire team has been working towards the season opener. Now it is clear that our Formula E adventure will begin in Jeddah on December 18,” said Jörg Schrott, Team Principal of the Opel GSE Formula E Team. “The calendar brings together modern metropolises, iconic motorsport venues, spectacular circuits and important international markets. That’s exactly what makes it so exciting for Opel.”

A highlight: The home race in Berlin in front of Opel fans and employees

For Opel, the journey begins in Saudi Arabia before the Formula E World Championship moves on to Mexico City in January. In February, Austin and Miami will host two stops in the USA before São Paulo (Brazil) concludes the Americas Bloc in March. With the trip to Sanya (China) in April, the focus will shift to Asia, before the European leg of the season will take place in May and June.

The European events and of course especially the German race are of particular importance from Opel’s point of view. The home race weekend in Berlin on May 8 and 9, 2027, will kick off the European tour – with many Opel fans and employees expected to attend. This will be followed by Monaco, Brands Hatch, Zandvoort and Madrid.

Strong in Europe: Formula E starts in successful markets

Opel is currently particularly strong in Europe: In the first quarter of 2026, Opel and Vauxhall’s passenger car sales in the EU29 region increased by almost 18 percent to more than 115,000 units, and the market share rose to 3.3 per cent. Opel also made significant gains in its home market of Germany, with almost 33,600 new passenger car registrations, an increase of 39 per cent. The Corsa remains an absolute bestseller in Germany, where it has been the most popular small car for more than five years.

In addition, further important markets have also been included in the racing calendar: In the United Kingdom, the Corsa also remains the best-selling small car, while the Frontera was the best-selling all-electric B-SUV there in the first quarter. In the Netherlands, the Corsa is number two in the small car segment, and in Spain, the all-electric Frontera ranks fourth in its segment.

At the same time, the dynamic GSE variants of the Mokka and Corsa are gaining in importance precisely in these markets: especially Germany and the United Kingdom, but also Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain are key markets for the Opel Mokka GSE and the new Opel Corsa GSE, which will be launched later this year.

“With Berlin, Monaco, Brands Hatch, Zandvoort and Madrid, the European part of the season includes several key markets for us,” said Schrott. “At the same time, Formula E provides us with a global stage to show Opel as an emotional and forward-looking brand."

Anticipation: Concentrated preparation for intensive premiere season

After the European block, the world tour will take the Opel GSE Formula E Team to Shanghai in July and then to the season finale in Tokyo. "A look at the calendar gives a good impression of what an intense premiere season lies ahead of us. We will be challenged on very different tracks and under completely different conditions," said Jörg Schrott. "This is exactly what we have been preparing for months: the team is growing together, the schedule is set, the test days are intensive and productive – and we will continue to work in this mode until the start of the season."
