The first IDCsmart Retrofit on an Asian M600
Dienstag, Aug. 11, 2026
In the past, ageing printing presses were plagued by inconsistent ink density, high wastage rates, colour deviations and recurring complaints. Furthermore, the outdated control systems were too slow and less reliable, and the lack of an online control system made the equipment difficult to operate.
Challenge
With increasingly stringent demands on print quality and cost-effectiveness, the M600’s existing ink control system was being pushed to its limits. The technology in use was considered obsolete, spare parts were virtually unavailable, and quality assurance no longer met today’s standards. Consequently, during the machine’s relocation, the customer decided to carry out targeted retrofitting to modernise the press for the long term and ensure it remains fit for purpose in the future.
Solution: IDC smart ensures accuracy and stability
As part of the commissioning of the new site, the M600 has been fitted with manroland Goss’s high-performance in-line density control system, IDCsmart. Given the press’s age, it was also necessary to implement an upgrade to the highly automated ink zone control system, OMNICOLOR. Consequently, the refurbished press is now capable of highly precise and automated ink control in line with current technical standards.
This investment has not only ensured consistently high-quality printing in the production of game instruction manuals, but has also improved production reliability and significantly reduced waste by around two-thirds. Consequently, precise ink control has laid the foundations for efficient and cost-effective printing production.
Key benefits at a glance
• Consistently high-quality printing achieved through precise online measurement
• Increased efficiency through automation and lateral ink measurement
• Future-proof production by replacing obsolete components
• Maximum process stability achieved through state-of-the-art ink control technology
• Waste reduced by approximately two-thirds
Project insights
„Thanks to the modernisation carried out with IDCsmart, our M600 is once again being produced to the highest quality standards and with maximum process reliability. Waste has been reduced by two-thirds, and valuable insights into system performance have led to significant improvements in production efficiency and sustainability, all whilst remaining within the planned budget,”explained Mr. Yazhou Zhang, Assistant General Manager, C & C Joint Printing (Vietnam) Co. Ltd.. Wen Hongtao, Managing Director of manroland Goss Web Printing Equipment (Beijing) Co., Ltd., added: “The rapid implementation and successful completion of this project were built on transparent collaboration with our client and our globally renowned team of experts. This enabled us to fully achieve all our technical and commercial objectives."
Coclusion: Proven technology, reimagined
This successful refurbishment demonstrates how targeted modernisation can bring existing equipment up to the latest technical standards. With the deployment of IDCsmart, C&C’s M600 has not only been technically upgraded but is also positioned to remain future-proof in the long term – offering consistent product quality, greater efficiency and enhanced competitiveness.
