PPWR: Opportunities and Challenges of the New European Packaging Regulation
As a company committed to sustainability, we naturally align with the European Green Deal, which forms the foundation of the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). In fact, we believe we are already very well positioned in this regard:
We offer our customers Blue Angel-certified products that guarantee a content of over 80% recycled film. Additionally, we commission an independent external testing body to confirm the high recyclability of our products.
Moreover, through our proprietary Debatin Recycling Concept, we actively collaborate with our customers to ensure the recycling of our packaging solutions.
However, we do have one request:
Please, don’t let bureaucracy get out of hand! And please specify the requirements clearly before they become mandatory. If that happens, we’re all in.
The objectives are, after all, entirely reasonable – and fully aligned with our own: reducing excessive packaging, improving recyclability, decreasing packaging complexity, increasing the proportion of recycled content, gradually eliminating hazardous and harmful substances, and promoting reuse – but without compromising safety.
