Rüsselsheim. Who actually illuminates the Blitz in the Opel Vizor of the Opel Grandland? A question that many children ask themselves when they look at the brand’s top-of-the-line SUV, which is electrified in every variant, including as the Grandland Electric AWD which recently celebrated its public debut at this year’s IAA Mobility. The answer is quite simple: The energy flow behind the Vizor, which is usually hidden from view, is managed by OPELO, Opel’s new bold companion. This can be seen for the first time in the animated film ‘The Adventures of OPELO’, which was specially developed for children.
In the short film, the cute digital figure proves how it keeps the electrical circuit running in the Opel Grandland – tirelessly and with a lot of inventiveness. OPELO, typical Opel yellow and black and with an electrifying Blitz in the digital face, is designed to be a real figurehead, not only for youngsters and a friend who can also go on long journeys. Because Opel is not only bringing the new brand ambassador to life today, but at the same time the new OPELO collection is also being launched in the Opel Lifestyle Shop – with a plush OPELO cuddly toy, T-shirts, stickers and much more that will inspire children to dive into the energetic world of OPELO.
From the first question to the film idea: The birth of OPELO
“We want to engage with people of all ages and invite them to join us on our brand journey. With this video, we are addressing the inquisitive minds of children and providing a humorous, entertaining and understandable explanation for what happens behind our Opel Vizor brand face,” said Quentin Huber, Head of Brand Content and Advertising. “Electricy plays a key role in our new models and OPELO symbolises this development.”
The task for the team was clear: OPELO’s face was to be endearing and at the same time modern in design and recognisable at first glance as an Opel representative. This is how the likeable yellow and black animation figure with the face shape of a computer screen was created. In addition to the big eyes, the energetic Blitz that reaches down from the ‘forehead’ to the face makes it unmistakable. The name was still missing. It should be memorable and unambiguous, a representative of the brand: a real OPELO!
"The illuminated Blitz of the Opel Grandland provided the ideal playground to create a story around OPELO and to convey the modern, digital appeal of the brand," said Huber. And so OPELO enters numerous computer commands in its ‘control centre’ behind the Vizor, walks around and makes sure that everything works smoothly. When OPELO finally accidentally trips over a power cable and the energy cycle is interrupted, the hard-working mascot does not give up until he has found a solution, and the Blitz successfully shines again. The entire film does not contain spoken words – and is thus understandable for young and older viewers everywhere.
Always with you as your best friend: OPELO now in the Opel Lifestyle Shop
In this way, OPELO is a friend and helper for kids and in order to make the holiday trip even more entertaining for the offspring and to make it really tangible, OPELO is now also available as a cuddly plush figure in the Opel Lifestyle Shop. There, parents and kids can now dive into a complete OPELO world. Because the portrait of the animated robot child not only dazzles on T-shirts in different sizes; it can also be seen on the drinking bottle or the lunch box for kindergarten and primary school. In addition, OPELO is also available as a keychain, colouring book and on many small stickers. And for all those who want a larger OPELO by their side, a stylish OPELO backpack will enrich the range soon.
