Technological edge through teamwork

A new collaboration between Langer Medical, Erbe Elektromedizin, and Koglek Medizintechnik marks a major technological milestone for thyroid and parathyroid surgery in German-speaking countries. The alliance aims to provide hospitals in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with a comprehensive, cutting-edge portfolio of solutions – with a clear focus on patient safety, efficiency, and ease of use.

Each company contributes its unique expertise:

Langer Medical is a pioneer in intraoperative neuromonitoring. Its AVALANCHE® systems enable precise identification and continuous monitoring of nerves at risk – particularly the recurrent laryngeal nerve – and are recognised internationally as the benchmark for safety and user-friendliness in the OR. The intuitive interface and continuous vagus nerve stimulation make the system a smart companion for complex procedures.

Erbe Elektromedizin delivers advanced imaging technology with the VIRON X camera system. Equipped with four CMOS sensors – three for RGB and one for NIR signals – it produces crystal-clear, razor-sharp 4K UHD images with exceptional detail. When combined with the VIRON XO Illuminator, the VIRON X camera system enables a quick and convenient switch from laparoscopy to open surgery without changing equipment. Its powerful, modular design is ideal for detecting parathyroid autofluorescence during thyroid surgery as well as for a wide range of other minimally invasive NIR and white-light imaging applications.

Koglek Medizintechnik enhances the portfolio with an innovative CRF system for cooled radiofrequency ablation. Featuring an intelligent ablation algorithm, real-time audiovisual feedback, and ultrasound-optimised 18G electrodes, it enables precise, controlled, and tissue-sparing treatment of thyroid nodules – operated intuitively via a large touchscreen and hands-free footswitch control.

An ecosystem for modern surgery

The combination of these three technologies creates an agile, user-friendly ecosystem that re-imagines surgical workflows in a modular, scalable, and future-oriented way. More than 150,000 thyroid and parathyroid operations are performed each year in the DACH region alone – clear evidence of the clinical relevance and potential of this partnership.

Added value for hospitals and surgical teams

Beyond technological excellence, hospitals benefit from a clear organisational advantage: The partners offer coordinated procurement solutions, reducing administrative effort while ensuring cost-effective conditions – all without compromising on quality. Interdisciplinary training programmes promote scalable knowledge and strengthen team competence in the OR. The result: easy access to innovative medical technology that raises clinical standards and sustainably enhances patient safety.

“Our combined expertise is more than the sum of three technologies – it is a strategic alliance for a new standard of care in endocrine surgery. By uniting clinical know-how, technological innovation, and a spirit of partnership, we create solutions that not only simplify everyday surgical practice but also elevate patient care to a new, sustainable level,” explains Christian Hartmann, Managing Director at Langer Medical.

Successful debut at CAEK 2025

Visitors to the 43rd CAEK Annual Conference in Leipzig – the leading conference for endocrine surgery in German-speaking countries – gained a first-hand impression of how these three technologies interact. Live demonstrations showcased how neuromonitoring, autofluorescence, and radiofrequency ablation can be integrated into a smart, unified system. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: Surgeons and operating teams were impressed by the potential of these integrated solutions – sending a strong signal for the relevance and future viability of this partnership.

A partnership with vision

The collaboration between Langer Medical, Erbe Elektromedizin, and Koglek Medizintechnik exemplifies a new generation of medical partnerships, driven by innovation, clinical relevance, and a shared mission of advancing surgical care. With combined technological expertise, hands-on solutions, and a clear focus on the people in the OR, this alliance lays a strong foundation for the future of endocrine surgery – one that is reliable, connected, and visionary.
