Whether as an elegant company car, a practical, comfortable family SUV or a high-torque patrol vehicle – the Opel Grandland meets almost all requirements. Opel’s top-of-the-line SUV recently demonstrated this at the GPEC®, the General Police Equipment Exhibition & Conference, in Leipzig, Germany. At the trade fair for internal security, law enforcement and homeland security, the current Opel Grandland was on display for the first time as a police patrol car. To this end, the specialists from cooperation partner EDAG have equipped the Grandland with everything a vehicle needs for daily patrol duty, from special signalling systems to radio pre-installation and police-specific foiling.
In order to reach the respective scene of operation quickly, the high-torque plug-in hybrid drive forms the basis for the police Grandland. A system output of 165 kW (225 hp) and 350 Newton metres of torque in combination with the electrified 7-speed dual-clutch transmission ensure that the Grandland plug-in hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds and, if necessary, reach a top speed of 220 km/h.
In the Ultimate trim, which was presented in Leipzig, the 10-way electrically adjustable Intelli-Seat Pro, which bear the seal of approval of the ‘Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (AGR)’, ensure back-friendly shifts for the police officers. For the best overview and all-round visibility at any time of day or night, the adaptive Intelli-Lux HD light as well as the 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera and the multimedia navigation system with 16-inch colour touchscreen are also on board.
With its foiling according to VESBA 2.0, the Opel Grandland is recognisable as a police vehicle at first glance and from afar. The special safety stickers with their retroreflective and fluorescent stripes and letters ensure that the patrol car is more easily noticeable even in adverse visibility and weather conditions, thus effectively securing hazardous areas.
