France is by far the largest producer of nuclear power in the EU. Following the 1973 oil crisis, the country launched its ambitious nuclear program. The country operates 57 reactors (as of January), making it the second-largest producer in the world. With a share of around 70 percent, France has the highest overall share. Globally, the U.S. ranks first, with 94 nuclear reactors. And nuclear power accounts for about 20 percent of total electricity production there.
China is rapidly expanding its nuclear program and may overtake the U.S. for the top spot in the coming decades, as dozens of new plants are in the planning stages. Currently, only about five percent of China’s electricity generation comes from nuclear power. As is well known, China faces major problems with air pollution and is striving to reduce its dependence on coal.
For the U.S. to achieve energy security, an additional 100 to 300 GW of nuclear power capacity may be needed by 2050. Currently, the U.S. generates about 97 GW. Energy demand is rising, with the growing number of data centers and AI being among the reasons for this increase. And the energy supply must be reliable and uninterrupted. Significant investments are required for nuclear power capacity to grow in the U.S. McKinsey estimates that the U.S. will need to raise between $105 billion and $170 billion to achieve an additional 300 GW of domestic capacity by 2050. All of these are major challenges for the U.S. Uranium companies should have sufficient buyers for their uranium.
Uranium Energy – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ – owns diversified uranium reserves as well as ISR uranium projects in the U.S., with additional projects in Canada. The company’s business includes uranium mining, processing, refining, and conversion. The company is debt-free and has substantial cash reserves. With the start of production at the Burke Hollow property, the company now operates two of its three ISR production platforms in the U.S. Expansion of additional capacity is continuing at the Christensen Ranch uranium project. Uranium Energy also holds strategic uranium inventories and operates a titanium and vanadium project in Paraguay.
Premier American Uranium – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/premier-american-uranium-inc/ – holds uranium projects in five prime regions across the U.S. With its extensive land holdings, the company is ideally positioned to strengthen energy security in the U.S. A private placement has injected fresh capital into the company’s coffers. An extensive work program is planned for 2026 at the flagship Cebolleta project in New Mexico, and work has already begun. At the Kaycee project in Wyoming, the 2026 exploration program has also commenced. Initial results have confirmed the project’s exploration potential.
